[PH] What weddings can teach you about pickleball

Hey Reader,

This weekend, I’m heading up to Tennessee for my oldest daughter’s wedding.

If you’ve ever been involved in a wedding, you know it’s basically an Olympic event in logistics.

Months of planning. Checklists upon checklists. Suit fittings, seating charts, rehearsal dinners, weather backups... and the constant hope that everything will go off without a hitch. 🤞

But here’s the thing: no matter how much prep you do, something always goes sideways.

A forgotten boutonnière. A special meal request that was overlooked. The DJ’s playlist mysteriously vanishes.

So, what do we do? We pivot. We stay composed. We focus on what really matters — celebrating the moment.

And that mindset?

It’s the same one that separates great pickleball players from the rest.

Because no matter how much you drill, warm up, or plan your strategy, things won’t always go according to script on the court.

You’ll face weird bounces, windy days, partner mix-ups, or opponents who play a completely different style than you expected.

The best players?
* They prepare — but they also adapt.
* They stay calm when chaos hits.
* They reset quickly and refocus on what they can control: their next shot, their movement, their mindset.

So this weekend, while I’m watching the wedding guests mingle about, I’ll remember how flexibility, preparation, and presence — the same ingredients for a great wedding — are also the keys to a great pickleball game.

Here’s a quick challenge for you this week:

👉 The next time something unexpected happens during your match, instead of reacting or getting flustered, take a deep breath and ask,

“What’s my next best move?”

That simple reset might just be the difference between unraveling… and playing your best.

See you on the court,

Trey

P.S. If you’ve ever had your own “wedding-day-level” pickleball moment where everything went wrong — hit reply and tell me what happened. I might share a few of the best stories in a future email (names changed to protect the innocent 😉).
